Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will have a team of doctors here at TIRR, ready to provide her some of the best rehabilitation care in the country once she arrives in Houston.

One man shared with us his story of survival and rehab, one is eerily similar to Gabby's.

"She's going to the right place. She's got the right people. The right doctors and everything. She just needs to buckle down and get tough."

Tough words from a tough cop. Danny Vaughn knows exactly what Giffords is going through.

In 1993, Vaughn, a Houston police officer was shot point blank. He took four bullets - one to the neck, three to the head.

Almost two decades later, he tells his amazing story.

"I'm not just living. I'm having a fantastic quality of life after my brain injury. And she can too.

"She's going to the best place I believe in the country. I mean look at me 17 years later. I'm still walking, talking, breathing, driving a car. Worked eight more years as a cop before I retired. I'm doing it all man. Doing it all."

He also serves as a mentor to other TIRR patients struggling through recovery. He tells them, yes, his injuries are still obvious all these years later, but then so is his miracle.

"They need to know there is a quality of life after a brain injury. And she will have a quality of life if she tries as hard as I did . . . she will."

We've seen that Giffords is a fighter. And we know she will continue that fight in Houston. She is scheduled to arrive here at Memorial Herman sometime Friday afternoon.
