Our philosophy is to care for the whole person, not just fighting the disease. That means not only helping the patient understand and select the best treatment option, but also understanding the personal struggle that each patient and family is experiencing. Each day, we witness ordinary people living with extraordinary challenges of cancer. Each day we witness some amazing moments of inspiration, grace, and strength. We do whatever we can to empower patients and caregivers, and be a source of personal strength in their battle to defeat cancer.
For Cancer Centers of the Carolinas, clinical trials and research is a core philosophy of every oncologist. We play an active role in advancing cancer care by leading and participating in many clinical trials conducted with patients who volunteer to participate in the testing of new drugs and unique approaches to surgery and radiation therapy. Not only does this push progress and help find better ways to treat cancer, but it gives many of our patients the opportunity to receive promising new therapies or investigational drugs not yet available to patients outside the studies. Cancer Centers of the Carolinas is dedicated to being on the forefront of the next step of cancer research.
Leading Edge Therapies
Cancer care has made many advances in the last decade. Chemotherapy has been refined to more accurately attack cancer cells. This makes the side effects much more tolerable than those of first and second-generation chemotherapy drugs. Cancer care has moved beyond pure use of chemotherapy that attacks cancer cells as a chemical poison. Advances from research allow oncologists to control tumors with hormonal therapy, and even at the cellular regenerational level. Additionally, expanded technology has fueled vast improvements in effective use of radiation therapy. Every year, the amount of information about cancer compounds - and as it does, CCC oncologists study and adopt the latest treatments that offer more hope for effective treatment of numerous cancers.
Day by day, cancer care is improved and augmented by intensive research that takes place worldwide. Therapies used today were only imagined a decade ago. Likewise, today, new therapies are being discovered and researched in hopes of more effective and curative results. As such, the oncologists of CCC are committed to ongoing studies of new leading-edge therapies and research for new cancer treatments. Though Greenville and Upstate SC are not usually viewed as clinical research centers, our practice participates as a National Cancer Institute (NCI) research facility. A commitment to state-of-the-art care positions our physicians as regional and even national authorities on various diseases.
