ASHEVILLE, N.C.Former President Bill Clinton will be in Asheville on Thursday to rally support for Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler, who's up for re-election in November.
The Democratic former president has been criss-crossing the country in recent weeks in an effort to garner votes for his fellow party members. The party is trying to hold on to its majorities in the House and Senate.
Shuler, who was first elected to the House in 2006 after beating an eight-term incumbent, will hold a rally at City Council Plaza at 12:30 p.m.
"I think we have better candidates," said Charles Carter, a member of the Buncombe County Democrats. "We're right on the issues. I think people understand we inherited quite a mess. We are just digging ourselves out of it."
Shuler faces Republican Jeff Miller in the general election on Nov. 2.
