WOODRUFF, S.C.A 57-year-old man was arrested and faced murder and attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting in Woodruff on Saturday, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said.
The suspect, Jesse Goggins, is employed with the town's street department. To avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest, the sheriff's office was asked to take over the investigation.
There were two victims, one male and one female. The woman, 39-year-old Carolyn "Lynn" Rangel, died after the early-morning shooting. A second victim, Tony Jones, was being treated for his injuries, deputies said.
Investigators said they were trying to establish a motive in the case.
Goggins was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder, they said. He was being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center. Bail information was not available.
