Upstate woman charged in wreck that killed friend

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Bobbie Wallace said she will always remember her granddaughter, Timesha Lyles' smile.

"I miss that big smile of hers," said Wallace.

She said she not only did she always have a smile, but she was always kind. But Wallace's mind often takes her to Interstate 85 near Duncan where Timesha died.

"When they said she had a wreck and there wasn't another car involved, I knew it had to be something else," she said.

She said back on April 17, Timesha and two other friends were headed back to Spartanburg after hanging out when she said an argument broke-out.

"She was arguing about some money or something, $2," she said.

Wallace was referring to Janella Blocker. She said she was told Janella had been drinking earlier in the night and at one point before the wreck, Timesha tried to calm her down and pulled over. But when they got back on the interstate, something went wrong.

"Janella grabbed the steering wheel at that time and jerked it to the right and that did it," Wallace said.

Investigators with the highway patrol charged Blocker with involuntary manslaughter. They said she acted reckless and caused the death of her friend. Troopers said the SUV flipped and threw all threw women from the car.

"I know it's going to tear her up, the rest of her life," she said.

Just off Interstate 85, there are still signs of the wreck, that has turned into a memorial. There is a headlight and some mirrors which sit under a cross. And even though Bobbie Wallace's mind drifts to I-85 every now and then, she said her heart is always with Timesha and she is proud of what she accomplished.

"She was going places and she was in college.I just miss her and I can't have her back," she said.

We're told Booker is very upset about all of this and she and Timesha were very close friends. Booker and the other backseat passenger were also hurt badly, but they're O. K.

If convicted, Booker could spend up to five years in jail.
