LANDRUM, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Thursday, two additional arrests were made in what deputies in Spartanburg said was the largest moonshine operation bust in the county's history.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says a tip led investigators to the elaborate distillery located on a farm off of Plantation Drive in Landrum in June. Deputies say the found more than 1,500 gallons of moonshine on the property.
Three men were charged at the end of the 10-month-old investigation.
Deputies arrested Michael Blackwell who they say sold the moonshine out of a peach stand and charged him with distribution of untaxed liquor, and he was released on a $14,000 PR bond on June 30.
Thursday, two other suspects in the case turned themselves in: Carroll Campbell and the owner of the property Larry Hyder. Both men were released on bond.
Deputies also seized several vehicles and more than a hundred thousand dollars in cash during the raid.
Wright said all of the suspects were cooperative and even showed him how the operation worked. Deputies will guard the property until the distillery is dismantled and all of the moonshine is removed.
