GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville teen was charged Friday in connection with a Fourth of July attack on an officer involving fireworks, Greenville police said.

Police said that just before midnight on July 4, an officer was called to the Westview Homes at 81 S. Textile Ave., after someone reported teens shooting fireworks.

Investigators said that when the officer arrived, a mortar-type firework exploded at his cruiser's windshield.

Police said that when the officer took the teen who he said shot the firework at his vehicle into custody, another person shot another mortar-type firework at the officer, which hit him in the chest and exploded not far from his face.

Investigators said they arrested 18-year-old Michael Sloan in connection with the second firework that was shot at the officer.

Sloan was charged with third-degree assault and battery by mob, assault of an officer during an arrest and first-degree assault and battery. He was being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.

The other person who was arrested in connection with the first firework that was shot at the officer's cruiser was not identified because of his age.

The officer was in good health.
