Spartanburg is now home to the first bicycle sharing system in the Southeast.
Spartanburg B-Cycle opened two stations in the city this week, according to Laura Ringo, executive director of Partners for Active Living, a local health and fitness advocacy group.
Memberships are available at three rates: $30 a year, $15 a month, or $5 for 24 hours.
Members can check out bicycles at the Mary Black Foundation or in Morgan Square, and return them to either location when they are done.
When renting a bicycle, riders will get the first hour free. After that, it will cost $1 per half-hour to use one of the bicycles.
All B-Cycle bikes have front baskets, adjustable seats, and a bell. They also come with a computer that tracks mileage, calories burned, and carbon offsets.
