SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg city councilman who police said was involved in a fight outside a Spartanburg nightclub earlier this month will not be charged in the case, according to 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins.

Spartanburg police said they were called to the Club Rome on July 7 about a fight that involved a councilman, his son and some of the bar's security staff.

Joe Wells, the club's owner, said his bouncer turned away two men who were wearing clothes that were not in line with the dress code. He said the third man who was with the pair who was turned away was Spartanburg City Councilman Robert Reeder's son, Robert Reeder Jr.

Wells said Reeder Jr. called his father, who later showed up at the club. He said he was called a racist for not letting the men in the club. He said that both Reeder and his son started throwing punches at him and his staff members.

Reeder Jr. was arrested in connection with the fight, but his father was not.

Wilkins said that his office reviewed the findings of a State Law Enforcement Division investigation and determined that there was insufficient evidence to support any additional criminal charges against anyone else involved in the fight.
