Search continues for college student's killer

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said they are searching for the person who killed a college student from the Lowcountry.

Deputies said about noon Monday they were called to the Reserve at Park West at 2000 Keats Dr. after apartment managers found a man dead inside. They said management went into the apartment after the victim's mother had not heard from him since Friday.

Spartanburg County Coroner's Office identified the man as 19-year-old Deandre Fulton-Smith, of Ridgeland.

A neighbor said they heard loud thumping coming from Fulton-Smith's apartment late Thursday night.

"It was late at night, we heard some pretty loud noises, cause we live directly below him," said neighbor, Caleb Huxster.

Huxster said Fulton-Smith was a nice, quiet neighbor and the ruckus was unusual. He said it was also strange that Fulton-Smith's black Acura had been parked in the same location, away from where he typically parked it, for about a week.

Sheriff Wright's investigators are searching for a blue 2011 Toyota Camry with a Texas license plate. He said they believe that Fulton-Smith rented the car from Hertz.

Although a cause of death was not immediately released, deputies said Fulton-Smith was the victim of a homicide.

Fulton-Smith was a business student at Spartanburg Community College and a part-time hair stylist out of his apartment.
