The Greenville County Recreational District said a 3-year-old boy was rescued from a water park Monday afternoon.
The sheriff's office said they got a call at 3:43 p.m. that the child was located underwater at the Otter Creek Water Park on Darby Road, and removed from the pool by a lifeguard.
Officials at the park said the boy was revived by lifeguards.
"These guys go through all sorts of training lifeguard training: CPR, first aid. And their worst nightmare, they always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. And in this situation they got a little bit of both, and so when the boy was presented to them they hopped down, they did their jobs," said Director of Community Relations Mike Teachey.
The boy was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Hospital staff said the child was in critical condition late Monday night.
