Car of slain Spartanburg Co. college student found burned

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The car Spartanburg County deputies said belonged to a college student found dead in his apartment Monday was found burned in Greenville County last week, investigators said.

Deputies said about noon Monday they were called to the Reserve at Park West at 2000 Keats Dr. after apartment managers found 19-year-old Deandre Fulton-Smith dead inside. They Fulton-Smith was the victim of a homicide.

Investigators said management went into Fulton-Smith's apartment after the his mother said she had not heard from him since July 22.

On Monday, investigators said they were searching for a blue 2011 Toyota Camry with a Texas license plate. They said they believe that Fulton-Smith had rented the car from Hertz.

According to investigators, Greenville County deputies found the car in question early Saturday morning. They said the car was burned on a side street near Whitehorse Road.

Anyone with information on Fulton-Smith's death or who may have seen the car between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning were asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
