A second person was charged Friday in connection with the death of a Marietta man.

Charles Roberts was reported missing on July 8. He was last seen leaving work that day, and investigators said they later found his vehicle in a wooded area off Gap Creek Road.

Roberts's remains were discovered Monday in a creek off Geer Highway in Travelers Rest.

Kent Dill, of the Greenville County Coroner's Office, said an autopsy revealed Roberts died from a gunshot wound.

On Aug. 16, deputies said they charged Jerry Allen Jr. with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with Charles Roberts's death.

On Friday, deputies said they charged 31-year-old William Phillips, of Marietta, with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Both men were being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.
