SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A South Carolina Highway Patrol officer who was injured in a crash in Spartanburg County on Saturday night was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

The crash happened on Fairforest Road near Old Fish Camp Road around 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

Lt. Tony Ivey, of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, said Trooper Corey Mason was working a traffic checkpoint and was not inside his patrol car when he was hit.

Mason's family told FOX Carolina that he had multiple surgeries after the crash.

Quincy Jermaine Dixon, 33, of Spartanburg, was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.

Warrants said Dixon operated his car in a negligent manner causing serious bodily injury to Mason.

Fairforest Road was shut down for much of Saturday night and Sunday morning while officers investigated. Both the Highway Patrol and the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office were at the scene.

An incident report said that Dixon failed all field sobriety tests, and was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for a blood test.

In court Sunday morning, a judge denied Dixon's bond request, citing previous violent crimes and called him a flight risk. Dixon said little in court as the judge explained the charges against him.
