A well-known Upstate businessman and social-media guru died Sunday.
Greenville police said they were called to the Second Presbyterian Church on River Street in Greenville on Sunday afternoon after a man was spotted with a gun.
Police said that as they approached the man and asked him to put the weapon down, he shot himself.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office identified that man as 45-year-old Trey Pennington.
Pennington was a well-known businessman and an expert in social media who occasionally was featured on FOX Carolina.
According to Facebook, a vigil for Pennington will be held at the Liberty Bridge in Falls Park on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Normally, FOX Carolina does not report on suicides, but because this one happened in a public place and generated many phone calls to the newsroom, the station decided to cover this story.
