Upstate teen girls find jobs as entrepreneurs

GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

South Carolina's unemployment rate continues to rise and many job seekers are forced to get creative, when it comes to snagging a job.

One Upstate woman is hoping to pass that knowledge on to young girls in the area.

There are many aspects of the Motivated Beauty program, based online, and in Greer. Its founder works with teenage girls, to get them motivated, and give them skills, to create their own jobs, instead of just hoping to snag a little piece of the existing, employment pie.

Founder, Daphne Williams, calls the teens "teen-preneuers."

She started the group with Facebook pages, and web sites. She has a blog, an Internet radio show, and is in the midst of writing a book, with the teens.

She said she's finally found herself, and wants to pass on what she's learned.

"With the way the economy is now, everybody's complaining they don't have a job," said Williams. "I have four degrees, and I couldn't find a job, so I had to create a job, and this is what I've done."

Williams teaches personal branding. She encourages the girls to decide what they like to do, and see how they can create a marketable niche with their talents.

"People say think outside the box," said Williams, "How about, there is no box. That's what I think. There is no box. Limits only exist if you create them in your own imagination, in your own life."

Williams is looking to expand the program, with a fundraiser in the coming months, and enlisting other professional women, to help motivate these girls.
