Police: Pedestrian struck, killed by train

EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Easley Police Department said a man was struck and killed by a train Thursday morning.

Police were called at 3:30 a.m. Thursday by Norfolk Southern dispatch advising that a southbound train had hit a pedestrian under the Prince Perry Road Bridge in front of Walmart.

Officers said the pedestrian was a 40-year-old white male of Easley. He experienced non-life sustaining injuries.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicated that the incident was carried out on purpose by the pedestrian.

The victim's name was withheld until the family is notified by the Pickens County Coroner.
