According to the Greenville City Police Department, a worker at a Greenville hotel was accused of using someone else's ID to get a job because she was an illegal immigrant.

According to the warrant request form, Maria Calixto, 33, worked at the Courtyard Marriott on 50 W. Broad St. for 15 months before authorities realized she had presented a counterfeit resident alien card and gave the name Yesenia Ibarra.

The document stated that Calixto gave the last four digits of Ibarra's social security number to be accepted by the E-Verify system.

Calixto was paid for 15 months, according to police. The victim Ibarra was notified by the Iowa state unemployment commission that her social security number was being used in South Carolina, so she could not receive unemployment benefits.

The warrant request form said that Calixto admitted in a sworn statement that she committed the offense.

Police said that for a first time offenders, someone guilty of financial identity fraud enabling an unlawfully present alien to live or work in the U.S. is a misdemeanor and upon conviction, the accused must be fined no more than $100 or imprisoned for no more than 30 days.
