ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson University officials said Tuesday that Lamar Jack passed away around 11 a.m. at AnMed Hospital in Anderson.

Jack was a 19-year-old basketball player from Piedmont, SC. He was a red-shirt freshman forward on the basketball team.

School officials said Jack collapsed during pre-season workouts on Sept. 30 and had been in the hospital since then.

Jack's family said his hospitalization was due to complications of blood clots in the lungs and a pulmonary embolism.

"Our hearts ache for Lamar's parents and sister, and his larger family and circle of close friends," said Anderson University president Evans Whitaker. "He was a fine young man, appreciated and loved by many in our campus family, especially his teammates on the men's basketball team. His death is a great and deeply hurtful loss to our campus."
