GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville Zoo announced that it will let the public adopt animals as a part of a fundraiser starting Wednesday.

The Adopt-an-Animal program will help support the zoo's wildlife conservation efforts and let patrons care and protect their favorite animals.

The zoo said that more than 30 of its most popular animals are up for adoption, including elephants, colobus monkeys, siamangs, giraffes, lions and Amur leopards.

The program's funds will be used to provide animal care, special diets, exhibit improvements, enrichment and zookeeper training along with education and conservation programs at the zoo.

The program has different adoption levels, the least expensive starts at $25 and includes a special gift package. The adoptions are for one year at a time.
