DUNCAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A shelter at Abner Creek Baptist Church has been set up by the RedCross for the 32 families displaced by an apartment complex fire Saturday afternoon.

It happened just before 4 p.m. at The Haven at Berry Shoals, apartments off River Ridge Road, in Duncan.

It was building 300 that burned. Officials say 16 of the 32 units were badly damaged, but they said it's likely, no one in the entire building will be allowed back inside.

"It's real sad, she just had a baby, and she haven't went back to work yet," said one displaced resident's boyfriend. "So everything she basically owned right now, and that we have for the baby, is all in this apartment. And we don't have home owners insurance, so it's a big loss right now."

Fire officials said they arrived to fine the top right third of the building engulfed in flames.

They said it took about seven fire departments, and hours to contain the fire. It caused heat damage to the outside of building 500, but officials say building 300 is unsafe.

"The folks on the left side probably will not be able to enter, because the right side's unsafe and the walls may fall," said Reidville Fire DepartmentChief, Patrick Evatt.

Chief Evatt says three people were injured: an emergency responder suffered smoke inhalation, a fire fighter got heat exhaustion, and med-flight airlifted a woman who lived in the building. Officials say she was initially trapped, but later brought outside by neighbors.

Bystanders say someone was grilling on their deck, but fire officials have lots of investigating ahead to determine how exactly this fire started.
