Asheville police investigate child's death

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville police said Wednesday night they are investigating the death of a child.

Police said the personnel at Mission Hospital called police after a 4-year-old boy was brought in by ambulance, suffered a cardiac arrest and died. They said workers at the hospital told police that there were a number of injuries associated with the child's death that were worthy of investigation.

Investigators said that at 9:42 a.m. someone called 911 and reported an unconscious child at the Pisgah View Apartments.

Police said an autopsy will be performed later this week.

The child's identity was not immediately released.

Police asked anyone with information about the child's death was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 255-5050.
