PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Trains run on tracks all the time in Pickens County. Box cars are filled with cargo or supplies, but during one run from Pennsylvania to Georgia, Tina Parker said she saw something.

"All of a sudden, I see this black garbage bag looking thing stuck on the top of the train," Parker said. "I just thought somebody threw away trash."

She said a stowaway hitched a ride and she wanted to help.

"Oh my God, there's a puppy on the train, there's a puppy on the train! Give me your phone," she said.

So she called 911 and she, her husband and son followed the train by driving next to it.

DISPATCHER: "Pickens County 911, what's your emergency?"

CALLER: "Yes ma'am, there's a train going through Easley toward Central."

CALLER: "In Liberty, on top of one of the JB Hunt trailers."

CALLER: "There's a dog."

CALLER: "Uh-huh."

"I am beyond blown away at the humanity of Norfolk Southern number one, to stop a train and slow down another," Parker said.

That's when Chris Rowland, the assistant fire chief in Liberty, along with others responded to the call too.

"The dog was shaking pretty bad and scared," he said.

In order to reach the puppy, firefighters needed a ladder since it was a double-decker box car.

And once firefighters reached the puppy, they handed the dog over to Parker.

"The puppy found a home," Rowland said.

The puppy is a girl and her home is now with Parker's family and two other dogs. And the dog found on top of the J.B. Hunt box car also now has a new name.

"So, it became Boxcar Hunter. It's very much fate that she ended up in our arms," Parker said.
