The Upstate Homeless Coalition said Thursday that a new program will offer permanent housing for homeless individuals and family members with disabilities.
The Coalition announced its Home at Last (HAL) program that will launch on Nov. 1 in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties with 15 households for homeless individuals and homeless families with at least one member who has a disability.
"Living with a disability or caring for a family member with a disability can be challenging enough with a roof over your head," said Linda Wilson, director of fund development and programming. "The added struggle of homelessness and poverty can be too much to handle. We're thrilled to launch the Home At Last program and to be able to offer permanent housing to individuals and families in need."
Interested applicants can apply for the program if they are within a specified low-income bracket and must provide a letter from a physician or other qualified professional certifying the disability.
The program was funded in part by the Coalition's annual Bridesmaid's Ball in February.
