GREENVILLE, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

TD Bank announces 1,400 new jobs in Greenville, 200 new jobs in Lexington in the next 5 years.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was in Greenville Wednesday for the major jobs announcement.

The announcement was made at the TD Bank Corporate Campus on Carolina Point Parkway at 9:30 a.m.

TD Bank said they will expand its Greenville corporate offices and creating 1,600 jobs in South Carolina over the next five years.

The company said Wednesday it will put a regional hub in Greenville, adding 1,400 jobs to its expanded campus off Interstate 85. A $17 million renovation of three buildings is to start early
next year. The campus currently employs 160 people.

TD Bank also plans to add 200 jobs in Lexington. Officials said the new jobs will be a variety of different corporate and operations-type jobs.

"This is a major investment in the future of TD Bank," said Bharat Masrani, president and CEO, TD Bank. "We are thrilled to announce the expansion of the Interstate 85 campus and creation of more than 1600 jobs to support our growth. Our Greenville regional hub will provide TD Bank with a strong foundation and capacity to accommodate the expansion of 'America's Most Convenient Bank' from Maine to Florida."

TD's parent company, Canada's Toronto-Dominion Bank, acquired Greenville-based South Financial Group last year, adding 176 locations in the southeastern United States. TD's U.S. headquarters are in New Jersey.

TD did not have a U.S. presence six years ago, but now has 1,300 branches from Maine to Florida.

Wednesday's announcement was coded Project Lotus and the only available info is that the plan includes at least an $85 million dollar investment that is supposed to create a lot of jobs.

This was the third announcement made by the South Carolina Department of Commerce this year to involve more than 1,000 jobs.

Gov. Haley was in Fountain Inn on Monday for another major jobs announcement when Bosch Rexroth released expansion plans of an $80 million investment and 160 new jobs.
