Deputies: Cop impersonator spotted a second time

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County Deputies said a second woman has spotted a cop impersonator.

The woman reported that a dark-colored SUV with a flashing, blue light pulled her over Friday night as she was driving home from work, according to deputies. She said it happened on Old Buncombe Road in Travelers Rest and she pulled over near Lake View Middle School to comply with the traffic stop.

After she pulled over, the woman told deputies the vehicle was gone. Deputies said there were no actual traffic stops reported in that area.

The first report of a cop impersonator happened in Spartanburg County. The Sheriff's Office is investigating an assault on a 36-year-old woman who was pulled over Wednesday night.

Sheriff Chuck Wright said that the man was a "predator," and that he "brutally raped" the woman that was found in a ditch off of Nazareth Road in Spartanburg.

Master Deputy Craig Bradley said the woman was pulled over by a heavyset man in a midsize SUV on Nazareth Road.

The woman told investigators that the man had a blue light flashing when he pulled up behind her. Wright said they do not know if he was wearing a uniform.

Wright said that he believes the man had been watching her and it was not random. He said she was a college student and also works, but they don't know where she was coming from.

Bradley said by 11 p.m., the woman was still undergoing medical exams, and that she had not been interviewed by investigators.

He said the call came in to the sheriff's office about 7:15 p.m. by a passerby who found the woman crawling out of a ditch on Nazareth Road. Wright called the man that found her a hero for stopping to help.

No arrests have been made, and the suspect has not been identified.

Sheriff's deputies encourage drivers who are pulled over by an unmarked vehicle to call 911 to verify that a true officer is pulling them over.

Deputies ask anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 23-CRIME.
