SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Seneca city leaders said they will convert the city's public transportation fleet into zero-emission vehicles, putting the city ahead of others in the Upstate.
City leaders said Tuesday they will purchase five electric buses from Greenville-based Proterra. They said the buses will be used to replace the three diesel buses that are in use now.
"You can ride a bus from Seneca all the way to Anderson and back again for free," said South Carolina Department of Transportation Commissioner Eddie Adams. "We're going to be able to do that with a zero carbon footprint on an all electric system that's going to put Seneca in the spotlight."
The purchase was made possible by a federal grant, city leaders said.
