INMAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A fire destroyed a family's home in Inman on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire happened about 2:15 p.m. at 617 Fagan Dr.
Firefighters said the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived. They said the flames appeared to be coming from the left side of the home near the utilities.
"We don't know exactly where it started," said New Prospect Fire Chief Philip Caruso. "We think it started on the left-hand side, around the utility, but we haven't determined that yet."
The man who lives at the home said he was napping inside and woke to find thick black smoke filling the room. He said he found the window in the bedroom and used it to escape the blaze. He said his wife was not home at the time of the fire.
The man said his family was planning to have Thanksgiving dinner at their house, but now they are more worried about where they will be sleeping Wednesday night.
