NEWBERRY, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

With less than two months until the South Carolina Republican Presidential Primary, GOP candidates are making campaign stops across the state.

On Tuesday, former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich will join the SCGOP at their "First in the South" Presidential event series in Newberry as the candidate takes a three-day tour across South Carolina.

Gingrich will attend the barbecue and town hall event at the Newberry Opera House.

"We are proud to welcome Speaker Gingrich back to South Carolina," said SCGOP Chairman Chad Connelly. "The Speaker recognizes South Carolina's important tradition of being the only carve out state since 1980 to correctly choose the eventual Republican nominee in every cycle, and I know that South Carolina Republicans will continue this tradition in 2012."

On Monday, former Lt. Governor Andre Bauer endorsed Gingrich as his pick for the GOP nomination. The South Carolina primary will be held on Jan. 21.

Across the country, Gingrich's stake in the polls is rising. In New Hampshire, he landed the endorsement of the New Hampshire Union Leader, the state's largest newspaper, on Sunday.
