PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Piedmont man was arrested Saturday morning after deputies said he broke into a woman's house and set her on fire.

Greenville County deputies said that about 3:30 a.m. they received a call from someone on West Georgia Road who said they awoke to the screams of a woman. The caller told deputies that when he went outside to investigate, he found a woman on fire in his backyard.

Deputies said they determined that the woman lived another home nearby. They said that when they arrived at the victim's home, they found evidence of a burglary and attack.

Investigators said that while deputies were investigating the victim's home, they received a call from 51-year-old Harold Watts, who was believed to be the suspect in the case. They said deputies responded to Watts' location and arrested him.

Watts was charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary. He remains in the Greenville County Detention Center on no bond.

The victim's sister said her name is Mary Darnell. She said Darnell is being treated at the burn unit at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Doctors told her Darnell is in a medically induced coma, with burns on 80% of her body.

Neighbors said Watts and Darnell had been in a relationship, but that Darnell tried to break it off for many months.
