ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Evangelist Billy Graham was released from an Asheville hospital Tuesday after being treated for pneumonia.

Graham, 93, was hospitalized on Wednesday.

Doctors at Mission Hospital said Graham had made good progress in combating the illness, with a steady response to antibiotics. They said he also demonstrated increased strength and mobility during his stay.

Graham said he was grateful for the thoughts and prayers he received during his hospitalization.

"I also appreciated the wonderful treatment I received here from such caring doctors and nurses," Graham said. "(I) feel I have made some new friends."

Graham said he was especially looking forward to seeing his Montreat home decorated for Christmas.
