SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County Council met Friday morning and approved the incentives package for a proposed Amazon.com distribution plant.

The council met at the County Administration Building to vote and go over the terms of the incentive package that included tax incentives and road improvements around the proposed site location.

At the meeting, the council said they are expected to break ground next week and should start hiring in the next few months.

Seattle-based Amazon is expected to create almost 400 full-time jobs and invest at least $50 million opening the distribution facility on John Dodd Road. The deal is expected to last 30 years.

"We are looking to the future and we expect even greater things out of Amazon," Jim Horton said, the chairman of the Spartanburg County Council. "It will be good paying jobs."

The third and final incentives package reading was originally scheduled for earlier in the week, but was delayed until Friday.

The Council revealed the proposed plant in November when they officially announced that "Project 300" was Amazon.

"It's going to be a lot of jobs and a lot of opportunity at a time when we need them most," David Britt said, Vice Chairman with Spartanburg County council.

Britt said it is a positive thing for the county, the Upstate and the state.

Recently, Amazon opened a distribution facility in Lexington County. But before the company agreed to come to South Carolina, state representatives voted to waive taxes for the company for the next five years.

Amazon began operations at a larger facility in Cayce earlier this year. That distribution center is expected to create 2,000 jobs by the end of 2013 in order to qualify for a state sales tax exemption.
