HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said they received a 911 call Thursday afternoon reporting that a Hendersonville man had been attacked but the call proved to be fictitious.

Henderson County deputies said they got the call at 2:51 p.m. from Kyle Gamble, 21, who said a black male shot at him but he was able to get away.

Gamble called 911 from Atkinson Elementary School for help, saying he ran there for safety, according to deputies.

The Sheriff's Office sent deputies and the Aviation unit of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the school to protect students and faculty, and locate the suspect. Deputies said the school was on lockdown during the search.

Investigators said they responded to Gamble's house on Georgetown Road and determined the reported crime was false.

Deputies said Gamble confessed to investigators on the scene, and said he had been threatened due to his involvement in illicit activities, creating the lie that he had been attacked.

Gamble was arrested and charged with misuse of the 911 system and is being held on a $5,000 secured bond. He will appear in District Court on Feb. 27, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are expected.

The Sheriff's Office said they were looking into remedies that could reimburse taxpayers for the resources used during the search and reduce future issues with a problem residence.
