Juliana Laticia Reyes and Alex Zelaya (NC Department of Crime Control & Public Safety)
RALEIGH, NC (AP/FOX Carolina) -
Officials in North Carolina issued an Amber Alert for a Cumberland County girl who was later found in Virginia.
They said 1-year-old Juliana Laticia Reyes is approximately 2'8" tall, weighs 30 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.
Deputies said to keep an eye out for Alex Zelaya who they thought she was with, and they may have been in a green vehicle with a Virginia license plate. Zelaya is described as a 23-year-old Hispanic male with brown hair.
Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said the 1-year-old girl was found Tuesday morning at a Food Lion in Newport News, VA. Tanna said the girl was dropped off by her father Zelaya.
Police plan to charge Zelaya with first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Marianna Reyes, the little girl's mother. Her body was found early Tuesday in front of her Fayetteville home. She had been shot multiple times.
Investigators said Zelaya fled the scene with the little girl in tow after stealing a neighbor's car at gunpoint.
Tanna said police in Virginia are helping with the investigation.
