CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

When the Tigers made their first return to the Orange Bowl in 30 years on Jan. 4, they hoped to win again as they did back in 1982. Instead, West Virginia University set a record as the team that has ever scored the most points in a bowl game. The Mountaineers beat the Tigers 70 to 33.

"I hated to see that loss to that degree. It was embarrassing as a Clemson fan," Rhett Vaughn, a Clemson fan, said.

And even a week later, fans at BGR Burger Join in Clemson are talking burgers, bowl games and defense.

"Anytime we've played teams that have running quarterbacks that have been able to really move, we've had a hard time with them," Vaughn said.

Fans said Clemson's defense didn't show up at all during the Orange Bowl.

"Just somewhere, maybe the message from the defensive coordinator is not getting to the players," Michael Mavrode said. He's also a Clemson fan.

"They've had great players on defense to run the schemes they wanted to," he said.

Now, there's word Kevin Steele is no longer the defensive coordinator.

He released this statement:

"I have had a great experience at Clemson and feel good about what we have accomplished the last three years. But there are some other coaching opportunities I wish to pursue at this time," Steele said.

"There comes a point and time when I feel like some changes had to be made," Vaughn said as he packed up what was left of his burger and fries.

And while some believe Steele is getting the blame, the fans at BGR said they are already hungry for a new season.

"I would love a National Title and an Orange Bowl win," Vaughn said.

Steele became the defensive coordinator at Clemson back in 2009. He lost several top defensive players to the NFL last season. But in 2009 and 2010, his defense gained national recognition for their play.
