Christopher Mahaffey (Spartanburg Co. Detention Center)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said an Enoree man found someone trying to steal something from his home and caught the suspect before he was able to get away.
According to a Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office report, deputies were called to a Cross Anchor Highway home in Enoree at 1 p.m. Saturday after a burglary was reported.
Deputies said that the homeowner and a friend were working in the backyard of the house when they saw a strange vehicle in the driveway and heard a door slam.
The report said the men saw someone coming out of the front door, which was unlocked because people were home, and they were able to catch the man as he tried to run off.
The homeowner said he noticed his gun was missing and the suspect, Christopher Mahaffey, 39, of Woodruff, said it was in his car, according to the report.
When deputies arrived, the men were holding the suspect at gunpoint, who was on his knees in the yard, according to the report. Deputies also found items on the suspect and in the yard that the homeowner said belonged to him.
Mahaffey was arrested and charged with first degree burglary and petit larceny.
