PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Liberty man was killed in a crash near Pelzer on Monday evening.

The crash happened at 6:14 p.m. at the intersection of state Highway 88 and Firetower Road.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown said 31-year-old Steven Baker was traveling east on Highway 88 when he came upon a logging truck. He said that Baker tried to stop, locked the brakes on his car and swerved into oncoming traffic. His vehicle was hit by a utility truck.

McCown said the utility truck then spun around and hit an SUV.

Baker was killed in the crash, McCown said. He said Baker's passenger, his fiancee, was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

McCown said speed was believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Highway Patrol did not immediately release information about the crash.
