Christopher Emmons (Spartanburg Co. Detention Center)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Spartanburg County deputies said an Aiken man is now in custody in connection with an August 2011 attempted robbery where one of the suspects was fatally shot.
According to Lt. Tony Ivey with the Sheriff's Office, Christopher Emmons, 26, of Aiken, and John Fowler, 28, of Inman, tried to rob a man in the driveway of his Cottage Mill Run home in Boiling Springs on Aug. 28.
Ivey said the victim shot and killed Fowler, and Emmons fled the scene on foot. Emmons was identified as the second suspect following an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit.
According to the incident report, the victim had pulled up in his driveway when he heard someone running up, so he got his gun out of his glove box. When Fowler demanded money, the victim shot him.
When EMS arrived at the scene, they found Fowler dead and Emmons gone, according to deputies.
Emmons was charged with attempted armed robbery and transported to the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Friday after serving time in an Aiken jail on unrelated charges, according to deputies.
