Clemson, USC ranked in preseason baseball top 25

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The University of South Carolina and Clemson University baseball teams were both ranked in the top 25 by the 2012 Baseball America Preseason poll, released on Tuesday.

The back-to-back national champion Gamecocks were ranked number three in the poll, behind number one Florida and number two Stanford. 

The Gamecocks will open their 2012 season on Friday, Feb. 17 hosting a three-gameseries with Virginia Military Institute in Columbia.

The Tigers were ranked number 16, which is the 24th consecutive season Clemson was ranked in the preseason by a major poll.

Clemson opens its 2012 season on Feb. 17 against University of Alabama Birmingham in Clemson.

Other ACC teams ranked include 9th-ranked North Carolina, 12th-ranked Georgia Tech, 18th-ranked Miami and 20th-ranked Florida State.

Besides Florida and South Carolina, the SEC had five ranked teams including 4th-ranked Arkansas,  8th-ranked LSU, 10th ranked Vanderbilt, 11th-ranked Georgia, and 22nd-ranked Mississippi.
