GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested a Roebuck man after they said he gave the answers to the concealed weapons permit test without training applicants.

Richard Lee Wykel, 51, was charged with perjury and subornation of perjury after an undercover SLED agent attended Wykel's class in Gaffney on Jan. 8 after South Carolina Rep. Eddie Tallon received a complaint from a constituent, according to SLED.

SLED said the agent paid the $65 fee, was fingerprinted, filled out the application and then received the answers to the test from Wykel, with the class lasting less than an hour.

CWP classes are required by law to last eight hours and include handgun qualification.

SLED said that any of Wykel's students that received their CWPs and did not complete the eight-hour training class are subject to perjury charges as well for falsification of the application process.

According to SLED, Wykel became a certified CWP instructor in 1996 as a firearms instructor for the South Carolina Department of Corrections, but he is no longer employed by the SCDOC.

Wykel was booked at the Cherokee County Detention Center.
