Heavy rain and t-storms will move in tonight, and our severe weather threat will be enhanced as strong wind dynamics are at play. We don't have a ton of energy for storms to access, but we'll be looking at enough shear to produce winds over 60 mph and perhaps a brief tornado.
The rain should arrive for our western sections between 6-8pm, then continue to press eastward into the overnight hours. There is a possibility that the stronger storms will stay to our south, since there is more energy/CAPE around the midlands and toward central and south GA.
Since dangerous weather could strike while many of us normally sleep, be sure to talk to your family about a severe weather plan! Pick a room of the house where you can all gather in the middle of the night if a warning is issued. If you have a NOAA weather radio, leave it on tonight! Or just leave on Fox Carolina and we'll break in with weather alerts.
Severe threat should diminish after midnight, then showers will linger through the early AM hours. We should clear Friday, then a sunny weekend will begin!
