Deputies: Teen hides in bathroom during break-in

Deputies said a teenage girl who was at home sick from school hid in the bathroom when burglars broke into her Spartanburg home on Monday.

According to a Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office report, the girl heard the doorbell ring a couple of times, but she is not allowed to answer the door when home alone at about 3 p.m. at the family's home.

The girl told deputies that a few minutes later she heard the kitchen door kicked open, so she grabbed one of their dogs and locked herself in the master bathroom, according to the report.

The report said she called her mom and 911 as she heard possibly two subjects going through drawers in the bedroom.

During the 911 call, the girl said one of the subjects tried to get into the bathroom but ran off when he heard her voice. She also said that one of the dogs that was out in the house was scared.

When she first talked to the dispatcher she said, "Someone broke into our house." Then later said, "Hurry, he's right here, hurry."

The suspects were gone by the time deputies arrived and discovered several items missing including a jewelry, a laptop and a fire safe with $1,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds inside, according to the report.

The 911 dispatcher was on the phone with the girl for more than 10 minutes. Once deputies arrived, the girl thanked the dispatcher several times.

There is no word yet on any arrests made in connection with the burglary.
