SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies say a routine patrol led to the discovery of a stolen car that tried to flee deputies and an arrest of the driver who was wanted on an escape charge.
According to a Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office report, a deputy saw he was behind a stolen 2004 Dodge Neon and tried to pull over the vehicle about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, which refused to stop for blue lights and sirens.
A chase began along Stephens Grove Road, with the Neon running a red light at New Cut Road, taking several turns and eventually it crashed into a concrete wall at Saxon Ave. and N. Center St. in Spartanburg, according to the report.
Deputies said the two people inside the car were taken into custody. They found several items inside the car that had been reported stolen from burglary, according to Lt. Tony Ivey with the Sheriff's Office.
Ivey said when the two were taken into custody additional warrants were served on the driver Brandy Clawson, 33, of Una.
He said Clawson was wanted since Friday on an escape charge, when she was found to be in violation of the home detention program, and a burglary she had taken part in prior to the chase.
Clawson was charged in all with second-degree burglary non-violent, grand larceny between $2,000 and $10,000, escape, possession of a stolen vehicle between $2,000 and $10,000, possession of a stolen vehicle less than $2,000, and blue light violation first offense.
The passenger Carl Johnson, 57, of Inman, was also charged with second-degree burglary non-violent and grand larceny between $2,000 and $10,000.
According to another report, Johnson was Clawson's boyfriend and he told deputies on Friday when they tried to locate her that he had not seen her since 5 p.m. on Thursday. The report said her tracking bracelet showed she left on Thursday.
The two were booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
