GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -
One person is dead following a crash and fire at a Greer gas station, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
Greer Police said an 18-wheeler and a Lexus SUV collided at the Hot Spot on South Buncombe Road about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. The car then burst into flames, killing one person, investigators said.
Police shut down South Buncombe Road from Highway 14 up to West Road. Hammett Bridge Road from Highway 14 to Henderson Gap is also closed as crews work to clear the scene.
There is no word on what caused the crash.
Coroner Kent Dill said Joseph Nichols, 20, was the driver of the SUV that collided with the tractor trailer. Dill said Nichols was wearing his seatbelt and died instantly from the injuries received in the crash.
Dill said Nichols lived in the Greenville after recently moving to the area from Laurinburg, NC.
Greer Police said the road was not expected to reopen until at least 10 or 11 a.m. Officers said the truck driver was treated and released.
