Traffic backed up along I-85 southbound at Pelham Rd. due to a fatal wreck at mile marker 51. (Feb. 1, 2012/FOX Carolina)
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Troopers said there was a fatal collision on Interstate 85 northbound at mile marker 51 Wednesday morning.
Scott Edgeworth with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a pedestrian was killed in the accident after the person was hit by a vehicle. There was no information available on the pedestrian's identity or any other injuries.
The accident was just north of the I-385 interchange near Roper Mountain Road.
A FOX Carolina photographer at the scene said the far left lane was closed and emergency crews were directing traffic around the crash.
Drivers should expect delays, as emergency crews were expected to be on the scene for awhile.
Our crew at the scene said at one point, troopers had all of the lanes blocked as the photographed and looked at debris scattered across the roadway.
