Mild Start to February

Posted: Updated:

Happy February everyone!  I needed to check the calendar to be sure, though, because it feels nothing like February 1st outside (nor did it feel like the end of January yesterday)!  Morning temps are in the 40s for many locations... well above our typical lows for this time of year (those are in the upper 20s and low 30s).

The clouds are overhead and they'll stay with us through the day, so we won't see as much sunshine as we did on Tuesday.  Despite the cloud cover and rain showers, temperatures will stay mild.  Highs will reach the low to mid 60s area-wide, as southwesterly winds continue to usher in the warmth.  Those winds will be a bit breezy in the Upstate, around 8-13 mph this afternoon.

As far as the rain chances go, a front will work into the area later today, bringing our best rain chances for the PM hours.  A few spotty showers have been falling in western sections this morning - and those areas may continue to see a few raindrops through the AM hours.  The best chance for widespread showers will come during the mid/late afternoon and evening hours.  Still, rainfall accumulations won't be high - most of the area will see about 1/4 inch or less... with some higher amounts possible in the Mountains.

Rain will end during the overnight in the Upstate areas... while WNC spots may still have a few spotty showers left over on Thursday morning.  By tomorrow afternoon, we'll be drier and brighter - and highs will be very warm, near 70 degrees for the Upstate!  Even though tomorrow is Groundhog Day, with temps like that we may not care what Punxsutawney Phil has to say!
