Whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, it will be a VERY spring-like day across our area. Of course, the official prognostication will come out around 7:30 - and based on the satellite pictures from the central/western PA area, it may be tough for him to see his shadow based on all the cloud cover overhead. Of course, if he sees his shadow we're in for six more weeks of winter... while no shadow would signal an early spring.
Rain showers in WNC are wrapping up - and by mid-morning all locations will be dry. We are dealing with light fog area wide, with some patches of dense fog in the mix. Because of this, allow for a few extra minutes on the roads this morning. Beyond 9 AM the fog should be lifting out of here.
Through the remainder of the day we'll enjoy nothing but sunshine. And the sunny skies will combine with warm temperatures to make it an AWESOME day to get outside. Lunchtime temps will be well into the 60s, so if you'd like to take a long lunch break and stop by a restaurant with outside seating it will be fantastic for that. Afternoon highs will rise to around 70 degrees in Upstate spots (southern locations will rise to the low 70s), while WNC areas will hit the low 60s. These highs are well above our normals (normal in AVL is in the upper 40s and at GSP it's in the mid 50s) - but will not make it to record territory (the record at AVL is 76° and at GSP it's 77° - both set in 1989).
Tonight will really cool off - lows will drop into the low 30s in the Mountains and the low 40s in the Upstate, but Friday will be another mild day (not as warm as today, but still about ten degrees above-normal). Clouds will increase tomorrow before rain moves in over the weekend.
