WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

School district officials said a tenth grade student was hit by a car while walking to school in Oconee County Thursday morning.

Oconee County School District Assistant Superintendent Michael Thorsland said the Walhalla High School student was struck by a car along Pickens Highway about 7:10 a.m. He said the driver of the vehicle stopped after the accident.

Thorsland said the student was transported to Oconee Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Capt. Wilbanks with the Walhalla Police Department said they accident was under investigation. He said the conditions were foggy at the time of the accident.

FOX Carolina spoke with a friend of the student who said the accident happened near a crosswalk and the student suffered several broken bones.
