Furman football faces 5 SC teams in 2012

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Furman released its 2012 football schedule Thursday, which includes five match-ups with other South Carolina schools.

The Paladins will kick off Sept. 1 at Samford then return home the following week to take on Coastal Carolina.

The team will travel to Clemson on Sept. 15. Furman is the Tigers' oldest football rival when they first played each other in 1896 and most recently in 2007.

Furman will travel to Presbyterian on Sept. 22 and Wofford on Oct. 6.

To end their season, the Paladins will host their archrival The Citadel. The two schools have played 91 times through the years. Furman beat The Citadel 13-6 in 2011 in Charleston, holding a commanding 57-31-3 series lead.

The team was 6-5 in 2011 under first-year head coach Bruce Fowler and are expected to return 15 starters.
