LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A child was killed in a crash in Liberty on Thursday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 4:26 p.m. near the intersection of Odell and Peachtree Street.
Troopers said a Liberty woman was traveling south on Odell when the 7-year-old, identified by Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley as Emma Boughman, was hit.
Kelley said Emma was riding her scooter across the street when she was hit by the oncoming car. She said Emma was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Emma's family said she attended Chastain Elementary, and they wanted to thank everyone in the community for their support and encouragement.
Julie Thompson with the School District of Pickens County said extra counselors were brought in for students and teachers dealing with the lost of Emma and would be available as long as they were needed.
Troopers said the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team was investigating the crash.
Emma's visitation was scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home. Her funeral was scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.
